On 12 March 2022, H.E. Mr. Poj Harnpol, Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka, attended the WBC Muay Thai Championship 2022 at Royal Mas Arena. The event was organized by World Boxing Council Sri Lanka (WBC Sri Lanka), a private organization with the aim to build enabling infrastructure for sustainable development of combative sports in Sri Lanka. The WBC Muay Thai Championship 2022 began with Wai Khru ceremony* and an opening speech by the Thai Ambassador, followed by twelve entertaining Muay Thai fights including two matches between female fighters. At the event, the Ambassador delivered an opening remark emphasizing the benefit of Muay Thai for physical fitness and mental strength, and its role in helping the underprivileged youth to achieve their life goals. The Ambassador also thanked WBC Sri Lanka for organizing the event and expressed his willingness to promote Muay Thai to a wider audience in the future.

*Wai khru ceremony is a Thai ritual in which students pay respect to their masters/teachers in order to express their gratitude and formalize the student–teacher relationship. The ceremony is typically performed before a Muay Thai fight.
