On 7 April 2024, H.E. Mr. Paitoon Mahapannaporn, Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka, joined the Thai community in Sri Lanka in celebrating Songkran Festival at Siam Nivasa, the premises of the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo. Songkran, the Thai New Year, has been proclaimed by UNESCO an intangible cultural heritage in 2023.

This Songkran Festival consisted of water pouring on a Buddha statue and on the hands of the revered elderly to ask for their blessings, Thai and Sri Lankan traditional dances by Thai and Sri Lankan performers, as well as Thai market activities.
