The Royal Thai Embassy, Colombo, together with Sri Lankan people and Thai citizens in Sri Lanka organized a number of events in Sri Lanka to celebrate the 86th Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, on 5 December 2013, as follows

1. Praying Ceremony The Sri Lanka- Thailand Society invited H.E. Mr. Nopporn Adchariyavanich, Thai Ambassador to Sri Lanka, to preside over the praying ceremony for His Majesty the King at Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo, on 3 December 2013

2.  National Day Reception The Royal Thai Embassy, Colombo hosted a reception to celebrate His Majesty’s 86th Birthday Anniversary and Thai National Day at Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo. The function was graced by Honourable Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Water Supply and Drainage and Chief Government Whip. The diplomatic corps in Colombo, Sri Lankan distinguished guests and Thai citizens in Sri Lanka, totaling 300 people, also attended the reception.

3. Kapilawastu Relic Exposition On 5 December 2013, H.E. Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, together with H.E. Mr. Nopporn Adchariyavanich, Thai Ambassador to Sri Lanka, were invited to attend the opening of Kapilawastu Relic exposition at Dipaduttamarama Purana Thai Raja Maha Viharaya, Colombo.

The exposition was held on 5-7 December 2013. Afterwards, on 13 December 2013, some parts of the Relic would be handed to Nai Rong Temple in Bangkok to celebrate the 86th Anniversary of His Majesty the King.

The displayed Relic is a part of Kapialwastu Relics, which Venerable Rajaguru Waskaduwe Sri Subhuti Thero, the teacher of Venerable Jinavarawansa Thera (Prince Prisdang Chumsai), received from Kapilawastupura, India in 1898. Part of Kapilawastu Relics was given to King Chulalongkorm (Rama V) of Thailand and is presently enshrined at Golden Mountain, Saket Temple in Bangkok.
