The Royal Kathina Offerings Ceremony
at Sri Sambhodhi Viharaya Temple Colombo
on Saturday 11 October 2014
On the auspicious occasion of the Royal Kathina Offerings Ceremony in Sri Lanka which is scheduled to be held at Sri Sambhodhi Viharaya Temple, Gregory Road, Colombo7, on Saturday 11 October 2014 between 09.45 – 12.00 hours.
The Royal Thai Embassy would like to invite the Thai community and all interested people to participate and join in the donation for the said ceremony at the function venue on 11 October 2014 or to donate in advance (in Sri Lankan Rupee or USD cash) at the Royal Thai Embassy, 9th Floor, Green Lanka Towers, Colombo 2, Sri Lanka, from Monday-Friday, at 08.30-17.00 hours, before 10 October 2014.
Kathina is a ฺBuddhist festival which comes at the end of Vassa, the three-month rainy season retreat forTheravada Buddhists. The season during which a monastery may hold a Kathina festival is one month long, beginning after the full moon of the eleventh month in the lunar calendar (usually October). It is a time of giving, for the laity to express gratitude to monks. Lay Buddhists bring donations to temples, especially new robes for the monks.
