The Royal Thai Embassy, Colombo, organized the reception on the occasion National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand, the Birthday Anniversary of H.M. the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the Father’s Day of Thailand on 5 December 2017 at the Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo during 19.00-21.00 hrs.
Around 250 people joined the reception, including the government officials, diplomatic corps, private sector and the Thai community in Sri Lanka. The Chief Guest who delivered the speech on behalf of the Sri Lankan Government was Hon. Mr. Daya Gamage, the Minister of the Primary Industry.
Mrs. Chulamanee Chartsuwan, Ambassador of Thailand, gave a speech on the importance of the 5th December. The date 5th of December was the Birthday of H.M. the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Thailand keeps this date as National Day, in memory of the devotion that the late King has given to the Thai nation for 7 decades. And this day is “Father’s Day” in Thailand, as the Thai people regard His Majesty King Bhumibol as “Father of the Nation”. Besides, the global community also celebrates the 5th of December as the “World Soil Day” as declared by the United Nations. It is befitting that the World Soil day is declared to coincide with His majesty the late King Bhumibol’s Birthday, as he was a tireless champion of soil and agricultural development whose works have raised standard of living in Thailand and beyond Thailand’s boundaries.
At the reception, an Exhibition on the works of H.M.the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej was held. There were also exhibition lucky draws, of which the winners got Sufficiency Economy Philosophy books; shirts, a voucher from a Thai restaurant, and one round-trip ticket to Thailand from the Thai Airways International (PLC.). The event ended around 21.00 hrs.
