On 3 March 2022, H.E.Mr. Poj Harnpol, Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka, visited Kandy to pay hamage to Most Ven. Tibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thero of the Malwatta Chapter of Siam Maha Nakaya, and Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Mahanayake Thero of the Asgiriya Chapter of Siam Maha Nakaya. Both chapters are Theravada Buddhist temples that derive their origin from the Upasambada ceremony performed in the year 2296 B.E. by Ven. Upali Thero, a Thai monk from Ayutthaya. Following the above meetings, the Ambassador also met with Mr. Pradeep Nilanga Dela, Nilame of the Temple of the tooth relics, who acts as a caretaker together with the above Mahanayake Theros, and also paid homage to the relics.
