Sri Lanka–Thailand Dialogue to reflect on past, present and future of Sri Lanka – Thailand Relations
 
To mark seven decades of diplomatic ties, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo hosted the Sri Lanka–Thailand Dialogue at Siam Nivasa on 29 August 2025. The Dialogue opened with remarks by H.E. Paitoon Mahapannaporn, Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka and Ms. Shashikala Premawardhana, Additional Secretary for Bilateral Political Affairs (East), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka.
 
The Dialogue was conductd in three thematic sessions, namely Historic Bonds: Cherished Historical and Cultural Linkages, From Sacred Bonds to Development: Expanding Areas of Bilateral Cooperation and Shared Future: Opportunities for Regional and International Collaboration. Their interventions reflected on the depth of shared history and underlined the importance of continued bilateral cooperation in the evolving geopolitics in the region.
 
The discussions were co-chaired by George I. H. Cooke, Senior Lecturer at the Department of International Studies, University of Kelaniya, and Chulamanee Chartsuwan (Former Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka 2017 - 2020). Discussants include Poj Harnpol (Former Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka 2021 - 2023), Maneesha Wanasinghe Pasqual, Pavithra Jayawardena, Umesh Moramudali, Indunil Sandaruwan Ranwella, Piyanat Soikham, Krongkwan Traitongyoo, Professor Chaminda Padmakumara, Hashan Wijesinghe, Sachini Navodya, Ayesh Wijayasingha and Suppawit Kaewkhunok.
