Legalization of Employment Contract

 

The legalization of employment contract for Thai citizens that wish to work in Sri Lanka and the Maldives is to ensure that Thai workers enjoy the labour rights and can apply for legal protection while working in these countries.

In this connection, applicants applying for the legalization of the employment contract at the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo must ensure that:

  • The Company is legally established and can hire foreign workers
    • Company license and registration
    • Has quota to hire Thai employee (if apply)
    • Photos of company and working location for the Thai employee
  • Accommodation’s condition must be acceptable to Thai employee
    • Photos of accommodation
    • Details of the accommodation, such as the facilities and arrangements
  • Employment Contract is in accordance with local laws
    • Details of wages, working location, working hours, insurance, probation period (if any), conditions related to contract termination and compensation, and other necessary information that covers work related issues
    • The Employee and the Employer are advised to sign or initial their names in each page of the contract

 

Legalization Process:

  • The applicant transfers the legalization payment of 6,000.- Sri Lankan Rupees to the Embassy’s bank account as follows:

Beneficiary Account Name: Royal Thai Embassy
Beneficiary Account number: 200
Sender's Account Description: Legalization payment to Thai Embassy

Note:
The above sender’s Account Description is mandatory for every transaction.
The above beneficiary account is available only for online transfers.
The Embassy reserves the right to deny approval of any employment contract if there is any indication of labour exploitation in the contents of the contract.
The legalization fee will not be refunded

 

  • The applicant sends the following documents as PDF file to the Embassy’s email [email protected]
    • Payment slip
    • Completely filled legalization application form (download here). The Thai employee’s contact information should also be mentioned in the form.
    • The draft Contract and supporting documents, as mentioned above
  • The Embassy will reply the email within two working days.
  • The Embassy will review the draft Contract and coordinate with the Employer accordingly. If the draft Contract does not cover essential issues and the Employer refuses to amend it, as requested by the Embassy, then the Thai Employee is obliged to write a formal Note to the Embassy notifying that he/ she will take full responsibility for his/her signing and will not claim or request assistance from the Embassy demanding for more benefits which are omitted in the signed contract.   • Once the draft Contract has been agreed by all sides, The Embassy will request the Employer to sign the contract and have it legalized by the relevant Sri Lankan or Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • The legalized contract must be sent to Embassy’s email [email protected]. The Embassy will coordinate with the applicant through email on the procedure of sending and returning the original legalized contract between the Embassy and the applicant.
