On 3 January 2017, His Excellency Mr. Nopporn Adchariyavanich, Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka, paid a courtesy call on Honourable Mangala Samaraweera, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, to bid farewell upon the completion of his tour of duty in Sri Lanka, and will soon assume the new post in Helsinki as the Ambassador of Thailand to Finland.
Minister Samaraweera congratulated Ambassador Nopporn upon his new assignement in Finland, and expressed his appreciation for the important roles of Ambassador Nopporn in promoting closer relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand, in particular, the exchange of visits between Thai and Sri Lankan dignitaries, including the 3 visits to Thailand of the President of Sri Lanka in 2015, and the official visits to Sri Lanka of Dr. Wissanu Krea-ngam, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, and Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand. In addition, Minister Samaraweera was also glad to see that the cooperation between Thailand and Sri Lanka in trade and investment has increased in the past years. Ambassador Nopporn agreed that the trade and investment between the two countries have developed tremendously, particularly in the year 2016, the Thai investment volume in Sri Lanka has exceeded 700 million US dollars.
Lastly, Ambassador Nopporn expressed his sincere appreciation to Minister Samaraweera and the Government of Sri Lanka for extending cooperation and support for the work of the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo during the past years, which have forged closer relations between Thailand and Sri Lanka.
