On 8 January 2016, His Excellency Mr. Nopporn Adchariyavanich, Ambassador of Thailand to the Maldives with residence in Colombo paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Mr. Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, President of the Maldives, to bid farewell upon the completion of his tour of duty in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, and will soon assume the new post in Helsinki as the Ambassador of Thailand to Finland.

President Abdulla Yameen extended warm greetings, and congratulated Ambassador Nopporn upon his new assignment in Finland. In addition, President Abdulla Yameen wished Ambassador Nopporn the success in his new assignment. On this occasion, Ambassador Nopporn also gave a brief overview of the current Thai investment in the Maldives, which has increased during the past 2-3 years, particularly in the resort business, and urged that the Government of Maldives continues to take good care of the Thai investors in the Maldives. In addition, Ambassador Nopporn expressed his sincere appreciation to President Abdulla Yameen for kind support extended to him during his tour of duty, which has forged closer cooperation and relations between Thailand and the Maldives. President Abdulla Yameen stated that he was happy to see the increase in the Thai investment in the Maldives, which is in line with the discussion with the Prime Minister of Thailand in January 2015, and wished to see more Thai investment in other sectors as well.
