The Royal Thai Embassy organized the Royal Cremation Ceremony of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand at Dipadutthamarama Thai Raja Maha Viharaya, Colombo on 26th October 2017, with around 230 participants from diplomatic corps and Thai and Sri Lankan communities.

The programme comprised religious ceremony at 15.00 hrs., and sandalwood flower offerings at 17.15 hrs. An exhibition on the life and works of H.M. the late King including his Royal Visit to Dipadutthamarama Temple in 1950 was on display. The participants could watch live broadcast on Royal Cremation Ceremony held in Bangkok.

The religious ceremony started with the Ambassador paying homage to H.M. the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and to the Triple Gems, and then inviting 4 monks to chant.  After the chanting, the Ambassador presented the offerings to monks, and then poured ceremonial water to dedicate the merits to H.M. the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The religious part of ceremony ended around 15.30 hrs.

At around 17.15 hrs., the sandalwood flower offerings ceremony began. The participants walked along the walkway, on the side of which Madara tree was planted by H.M. the late King during his visit to the temple in 1950. The venue to present the sandalwood flowers to His Majesty the late King was in front of Rattana Chedi, designed and constructed by Phra Chinnavoravongse (or Prince Prisdang Jumsai in his monkhood), a Thai monk and former chief-incumbent of Dipadutthamarama temple. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand renovated the pinnacle of Chedi under Royal Patronage of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The Ambassador, officials and all participants laid the sandalwood flowers and received commemorative books. The ceremony ended at 18.00 hrs.
