On 12 January 2023, H.E. Ambassador Poj Harnpol, as the chief guest, presided over the opening ceremony of the "Following in the footsteps of Langkawong" Dhammayatra at the Faxian Buddhist Cultural Center, Weliweriya. The Dhammayatra was organized to commemorate the occasion of the 270th anniversary of Upali Thera leading a group of Buddhist monks from Ayutthaya (during the reign of King Borommakot known in Sri Lanka as King Dhammikaraja) to revive Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Upali Thera later found the Siam Nikaya that has florished in Sri Lanka today. The Dhammayatra was scheduled to be held between 11 January - 9 February 2023 with the participation of 46 monks, nuns and novices from Thailand, Laos and Myanmar.
