During 10-12 August 2021, Mr. Poj Harnpol, Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka headed the Thai delegation to attend the 47th Consultative Committee Meeting (CCM) of the Colombo Plan held in Colombo, which was the first virtual meeting since the establishment of the Colombo Plan 70 years ago. The Colombo Plan has implemented activities in the fields of economic and social development in the member states, particularly in the areas of narcotic drugs, gender affairs, capacity building, environment and climate change. Thailand joined the Colombo Plan in 1954 and has been an active member country ever since.
 
The meeting discussed various issues such as the outcome of activities between 2018 and 2020. Future activity plans and admission of the republic of Chile as the 28th member state of the Colombo Plan.
 
Thailand informed the meeting on its planned activities for the next two years, proposed the possibility on sharing guidelines for best practices of relevant Thai agencies; namely, Thailand’s International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and the Office of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
 
In addition, at the Standing Committee regional subgroup meeting of Southeast Asian member states, Thailand was selected and assigned to serve as moderator of the meeting.
