The Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo and Debsirindrawas Ratchaworawihan Monastery of Thailand wish to invite interested Sri Lankans with the following qualifications to apply to a Thailand-sponsored programme “Dhamma Spiritual Retreat in Thailand on the passing away of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother", which will be held in Sri Lanka during 22- 27 January 2026 in Colombo and 28 January - 11 February 2026 in Thailand. Interested applicants must apply through the Royal Thai Embassy through the QR code below. Deadline for submission is strictly Wednesday 3 December 2025 at 4:30 pm. Short-listed candidates will be contacted for an interview in Kandy and Colombo venue will be informed.
Interview in Kandy: Saturday 13 December 2025 at 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Interview in Colombo: Saturday 20 December 2025 at 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Qualifications:
- Males of Sri Lankan Nationality residing in Sri Lanka, at the above 20 years in good physical and mental health since there will be a lot of memorizing verses, walking and climbing, sitting in the Samadhi Posture for hours and two meals a day 7:00 am and 11:00 am as ordained monks;
- Buddhists with good faith, interest, and understanding of Buddhism and Buddhist teachings;
- Be able to understand basic English;
- Participants must obtain permissions from parents and family as well as from their employers on their personal capacity;
- Participants will need to follow disciplines by living the life of a monk in Thailand, which include, among others, practicing meditation, chanting in the morning and evening, learning Buddhist teachings, following food dietary restriction, and doing work-related physical activity and must actively participate in the following programme in Sri Lanka;
- Interview in Kandy on Saturday 13 December 2025 9:00 am – 5:00 pm and in Colombo on Saturday 20 December 2026 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Venue’s will be informed to the selected participants.
- Five-Day preparation training for the ordination procedure in Colombo during 17 and 22 - 25 January 2026 in Colombo at Deepaduttamaramaya, Kotahena, Colombo 13., and on 26 January 2026 a retreat at Rajaguru Sri Subuthi Temple Waskaduwa. In addition for the five-day training program there will be advance training in Kandy and in Colombo (27 - 28 December 2025 in Kandy and 10 -11 January 2026 in Colombo);
- Ordination ceremony and study tours to visit Buddhist sites in Thailand, particularly those related to Sri Lanka and Thailand relations, during 28 January - 11 February 2026;
- Participants should have a passport with a validity for 6 months from the date of departure (27 January 2026).
- Costs including return air tickets, accommodation, meals and study tours and visits will be provided by the Royal Thai Embassy and the Debsirindrawas Ratchaworawihan Monastery of Thailand. No allowance/stipends will be provided;
- Participants are not allowed to bring any family members or friends along with this program or separately during the period;
- Participants who participated in Siamvamsa 1 and 2 Please refrain from applying;
- Follow-up: Participants may be asked to share their experiences and learnings with the community after their return;
