The Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo, in collaboration with the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, and Sri Lanka – Thailand Business Council, organized the Forum entitled “Business Opportunities between Thailand and Sri Lanka: Food, Agriculture, and Health for Sustainable Prosperity and Well-being” by leading the business delegation from Sri Lanka to Thailand during 2 – 6 February 2025 and the business and academic delegation from Thailand to Sri Lanka during 2 – 6 March 2025.

The business sectors of both sides found opportunities to expand businesses and cooperation in many ways including import, export, join ventures, and academic exchange.

In the realm of food and agriculture, Thailand and Sri Lanka discussed the import of potential raw materials from Sri Lanka in the food processing businesses of Thailand such as pepper and cinnamon as well as fruits like mango, pineapple, and coconut. Both sides could also have joint ventures in this area.

On medicine and medical science, both sides discussed the cooperation in patient referral, training courses both in traditional medicines and human resource development such as nursing. As for the medicine and food supplement, Thailand and Sri Lanka will exchange imports and exports as well as promoting joint ventures.

For kitchenware and kitchen fittings, Sri Lankan retail businesses will import Thai products which will match the taste of Sri Lankan customers.

In addition, Mr. Sanjeewa Ediri Wickramasuriya, Executive Director, Thai – Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce said Thailand will be able to export up to 1,000 pickup trucks, vans, and cars to Sri Lanka with the first lot arrived in Sri Lanka in the first quarter of March 2025.

In the area of research and development, Sri Lanka wishes to collaborate with Thailand in food, agriculture, and health research and development, including organic agriculture and herbal medicines to improve the livelihood of peoples of the two countries through prevention and treatment of diseases which are common challenges.

สถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงโคลัมโบ ร่วมกับหอการค้าไทยและสภาหอการค้าแห่งประเทศไทย สภาหอการค้าแห่งซีลอนและสภาธุรกิจศรีลังกา – ประเทศไทย จัดกิจกรรม “โอกาสทางธุรกิจระหว่างไทยกับศรีลังกา: อาหาร เกษตร และสุขภาพ เพื่อความเจริญอย่างยั่งยืนและความเป็นอยู่ที่ดี” โดยได้นำคณะนักธุรกิจและผู้แทนที่เกี่ยวข้องของศรีลังกาเดินทางเยือนประเทศไทย ระหว่างวันที่ 2 – 6 กุมภาพันธ์ 2568 และได้นำคณะนักธุรกิจ ผู้แทนภาครัฐและสถาบันการศึกษาจากประเทศไทยเยือนศรีลังกา ระหว่างวันที่ 2 – 6 มีนาคม 2568

คณะนักธุรกิจทั้งสองฝ่ายมองเห็นโอกาสในการต่อยอดธุรกิจในอนาคตในรูปแบบต่าง ๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการส่งออก การนำเข้า การลงทุนร่วมกัน รวมถึงการแลกเปลี่ยนทางวิชาการ

ในสาขาเกษตรและอาหาร ได้หารือถึงการนำเข้าวัตถุดิบที่มีศักยภาพของศรีลังกามาในกระบวนการแปรรูปอาหารของไทย เช่น พริกไท และซินนาม่อน เป็นต้น ตลอดจนผลไม้ที่มีอยู่มากมายในศรีลังกา เช่น มะม่วง สัปปะรด และมะพร้าว  ซึ่งศรีลังกาต้องการลงทุนร่วมกับไทยในการแปรรูปร่วมกัน

ในเชิงการแพทย์และยา ได้หารือถึงความร่วมมือทางการแพทย์ ทั้งในรูปแบบของการส่งผู้ป่วยระหว่างกัน และการทำ course อบรมร่วมกันทั้งในเรื่องของยาแผนโบราณ และการพัฒนาบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ เช่น การพยาบาล เป็นต้น ทั้งนี้ ในส่วนของยาและอาหารเสริม มีโอกาสในการนำเข้าวัตถุดิบจากศรีลังกาและการส่งออกไปยังศรีลังกา รวมทั้งการลงทุนร่วมกันด้วยเช่นกัน

ในส่วนธุรกิจของใช้ในครัวเรือน ผู้ประกอบการไทยได้มีโอกาสพบกับห้างค้าปลีกของศรีลังกา ซึ่งผลิตภัณฑ์ของไทยจะได้รับความสนใจและเป็นที่นิยมสำหรับผู้บริโภคชาวศรีลังกา

นอกจากนี้ นาย Sanjeewa Ediri Wickramasuriya กรรมการบริหาร สภาธุรกิจไทย – ศรีลังกา ประเทศไทย ได้ให้ข้อมูลว่า ในปีนี้ ไทยจะสามารถส่งรถในรูปแบบรถกระบะ รถตู้ และรถเก๋ง มายังศรีลังกาได้มากถึง 1,000 คัน ซึ่งการส่งออกรถล็อตแรกได้ถึงศรีลังกาแล้วเมื่อต้นเดือนมีนาคมที่ผ่านมา

ในความร่วมมือด้านการวิจัยและพัฒนา ศรีลังกาประสงค์จะร่วมมือด้านการวิจัยและพัฒนาด้านเกษตร อาหารและสุขภาพร่วมกับไทย รวมถึงเกษตรออร์แกนิคและยาสมุนไพร เพื่อช่วยให้ประชาชนของทั้งสองประเทศมีคุณภาพชีวิตและความเป็นอยู่ที่ดีและสามารถป้องกันและรักษาโรคภัยไข้เจ็บที่เป็นความท้าทายได้ร่วมกัน
