The Royal Thai Embassy Colombo, in collaboration with the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS), organized the seminar on “Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) as an approach towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” at BCIS on 6 July 2017 during 16.30-19.00 hrs.
The objective of the seminar was to introduce and promote the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) as an approach towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and a framework of development cooperation between Thailand and Sri Lanka.
The function started by a moment of silence to show respect to H.M.the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand and a welcoming remarks by Dr.Harinda Vidanage, Director of BCIS. The seminar was chaired by Mrs.Chulamanee Chartsuwan, Ambassador-Designate of Thailand to Sri Lanka and featured panelists from Thailand namely, Petty Officer First Class Khian Sroisom, Thai agriculturist from the Agricultural Technology Transfer and Service Centre and Ms. Patcharaporn Sakulwiwat, Assistant Vice President of Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF). The panelist from Sri Lankan side was Mr.J.K.Padmasiri, Director (Planning and Monitoring) of the Department of Samurdhi Development.
The Q&A session was proceeded with enthusiasm from the participants, which mainly focused on the applications of SEP.
After the seminar, there was a performance related to the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy of H.M. the late King by a cultural troupe from Thailand, followed by the reception for 150 participants. The event ended at 19.00 hrs.
