The reception on the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand,
5 December 2018
The Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo organised the reception on the occasion of National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand, the Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Thailand’s Father’s Day on 5 December 2018 at Shangri La Hotel.
Around 300 people participated in the event, including government officials, diplomatic corps, private sector and the Thai community in Sri Lanka. The Chief Guest who delivered the speech on behalf the Sri Lankan Government was Mr. Ravinatha Ariyasinha, Secretary, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka.
Her Excellency Mrs. Chulamanee Chartsuwan, Ambassador of Thailand delivered a speech on the importance of the date 5th December. The date 5th of December was the Birthday of H.M. the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Thailand keeps this date as National Day, in memory of the devotion of the late King to Thai people. This day is also “Father’s Day” in Thailand. With regards to bilateral relations between Thailand and Sri Lanka, the Ambassador also reaffirmed the excellent ties and goodwill between the two countries. She reiterated that Thailand is a time-tested friend, ready to support Sri Lanka in different angles especially in the promotion of sustainable development.
At the reception, an Exhibition on the works of H.M. the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej was held. Her Excellency Mrs. Chulamanee Chartsuwan also presented the certificates to 5 Sri Lankan students, who were selected to participate in the study visit about the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy from 1 to 5 August 2018 in Thailand. There were also lucky draws for numerous prizes. The biggest prize of the event was one round trip ticket to Thailand in Business Class from the Thai Airways International. The event ended around 21.00 hrs.
